In a country where too many (ANC-run) municipalities are rapidly declining, Drakenstein is proving that excellence is possible. Its rise from 51st to one of South Africa’s Top 5 municipalities in less than a decade is no accident.
When Ratings Afrika released its latest report a fortnight ago, DA-run Drakenstein celebrated an outstanding achievement by leaping into the Top 5 best-performing municipalities in South Africa.
Notably, every municipality in the Top 5 is a DA-run Western Cape municipality.
The dramatic ascent of Drakenstein reflects a powerful example of what DA governance delivers. It speaks directly to responsible financial management, good governance, sustainable service delivery and a commitment to ensuring that every rand of public money works for residents.
With 11 clean audits and 17 consecutive unqualified audits, top national governance rankings, and a strong focus on sustainability and community impact, the municipality is setting the governance standard for in South Africa.
The ranking is evidence that good governance translates into better services and opportunities.
But, this goes beyond rankings for residents. It means better roads, water in taps, housing opportunities, job creation as investor confidence swells, financial sustainable for future generations and a functioning municipality residents can rely on.
Drakenstein’s turnaround is proof that where the DA governs, delivery follows. On 1 and 2 August is the final IEC Registration Weekend. It is imperative for residents to ensure they are correctly registered to vote. With four months remaining before the Local Government Elections, Drakenstein residents have a chance to keep their town working for all.
