Today, the DA must confront a troubling situation that threatens the integrity of our local governance. It has come to light that DA Ward 20 George candidate, Christo Alexander, received an unsolicited phone call from the Patriotic Alliance (PA) – at 2am this morning! During this call, Christo was asked to withdraw his candidacy and in exchange, promised a mayco member deal in Knysna as well as a personal meeting with PA Leader Gayton McKenzie on Sunday.

This dirty tactic comes as no surprise as the shameful PA have already done and tried these underhanded by-election tricks in two George wards – Ward 16 and Ward 27 – and in a ward in Johannesburg. And yet again, they are at it.

To be frank, the PA is running scared and intimidated at the prospect of the DA outshining them in the Ward 20 by-election on 23 October, hence the desperate bid to sway Christo.

He immediately told the PA to stay away from him and hung up the phone.

Christo was previously a PA Councillor but resigned from that party because he had concluded that the PA was not what it claims to be, and persistently made false promises. Christo is now Ward 20 candidate for the DA in the upcoming by-election. If elected, Christo looks forward to serving the community with integrity.
